The Word in Ruigoord presents
Flaming Tongues.
3 days poetry and music.
June 7-9 2003
Day 1
After about 29 years I visited
Ruigoord again and I felt quickly
home.
What follows are some words
and pictures of 3 fantastic days.
Of course I couldn't find it right away.
So I parked for a minute here.
Some cyclist pointed me
in the right direction.
When I parked my car,
I made a new friend.
It
was early in the afternoon and
I was not alone with my old-timer.
I drive a 33 year old Peugeot,
but this Volvo was even older.
The sun was shining nicely
and slowly I approached the festival.
First
of all I saw the tent of the White Monkey
and I heard the little radio shouting,
you are listening to Radio Ruigoord.
I wanted to know more about that,
so I went to the bar to drink some wine
and asked the guy behind the bar,
where I could find the studio.
He wouldn't tell me
because I was from
the police.
I answered that he was wrong
and that I was only secret police.
I drunk my wine and 10 minutes later
a girl asked me why I wanted to know
about the radio.
I told her I make radio myself and she
invited me to
go to the studio.
So suddenly I was playing
my tapes on the radio
and even interviewing people
who came to the studio.
Yep, this is me, with my short hair
and nicely dressed for the summery
weather.
I couldn't wish for a better start,
because I like to do radio
a lot.
I met many interesting people,
like Ron and his wife Sheila from
Canada,
who are also totally into radio,
specially free radio.
Here you see Ron and Sheila tasting
the speculaas I had with me.
After a few hours it was time for me
to see some of the programs and have
a bite
at the famous Dead Cow Bar.
People could choose to hear poetry,
music or join workshops or just hang around.
Names and more info, you can find on www.ruigoord.nl
I made many pictures,
this was one of the first.
Or this one from the public shower.
I love painted cars like these too
The famous
bus from the Balloon Company
Next is a picture of a workshop that was
pretty loud with so many people.
At the entrance
of the church
I found the programs of the day.
It was very much and on
many places,
Everybody moved around a lot.
Slowly the sun went down
but still a lot of people arrived
and more
and more tents
showed up in the field.
In
the evening I went back to the studio
where Christopher Brown was interviewed.
I took the picture with the flash
which gives you some red eyes.
Chris
read some pieces from his book
German Gedichte and Other Late Century Poems.
Interesting stuff and I promised myself
to see him the next day performing
in the church.
Here are 2 numbers from his CD in real audio.
After that a girlfriend of me arrived
With her, but without the
camera,
we visited all the different bars and enjoyed ourselves
until
new daylight showed up.
End of day 1
